REBUILT INJECTION PUMPS
What is a rebuilt product?
A repaired unit that is fully equipped and ready to be fitted.
What is the purpose of a rebuilt product?
To turn the slow and complex repair process into a simple, effective and speedy process of installation.
What is the difference between a rebuilt product and a repaired one?
- All the parts that move, wear out or come into contact with others are replaced by new ones.
- Exhaustive quality control of the recycled components.
- Production takes place on an assembly line, thus reducing costs and providing a cheaper, higher-quality product.
- Quality control of the end product is guaranteed for one year in line with ISO 9002:1994 Standard.
- Estimates are finalised before the vehicle enters the workshop for repair.
- The end product is supplied with the accessories and documents needed to fit it.
Identifying different types of fuel injection pumps
There are two main types of injection pumps. They can easily be differentiated between:
| LINEAR |
ROTARY |
| Marca Bosch |
Delphi brand
(formerly Lucas) |
 |
 |
 |
| |
Types:
VE "modern"
VP44 "very modern"
EDC "modern electronic"
VA "old" |
Types:
DPC and DPS "modern"
EPIC "modern electronic"
DPA "old" |
Other possible makes:
Tdz, Sims, Minimec, older makes |
Other possible makes:
Diesel Kiki or Zekel (under licence from Bosch), Nippondenso and Stanadyne |
|
New diesel injection systems are now on the market and include injection pumps, Common Rail systems, etc.
How to identify a fuel injection pump
The make of the fuel injection pump, serial number and other information either appears on an identification plate on the pump casing or is stamped on the side of the part.
Each pump manufacturer uses a different type of serial number:
-
Bosch: the serial number starts with 0 and has 10 digits, eg 0 460 494 105.
- Lucas: the serial number starts with 3 or 8 and consists of 8 or 9 digits in the following sequence: four numbers, a letter, three numbers and ending in some cases with another letter, eg 8443 B 376 A.
- Diesel Kiki "Zekel": the serial number starts with 1 and consists of 10 digits in the following sequence: six numbers, a space or a hyphen and four numbers, eg 104749-2310.
- Nippondenso: the serial number starts with 0 and consists of 10 digits in the following sequence: six numbers, a space or a hyphen and four numbers, eg 096000-7780.
- Stanadyne: the serial number starts with a letter and consists of 10 digits - a combination of letters and numbers, eg "XXXXXX-XXXX".
What is a fuel injection pump and how does it work ?
It forms part of the fuel supply circuit in diesel engines and its function is to supply fuel through the injectors to the cylinders in order to achieve combustion. The purpose of the diesel injection pump is to spray the fuel, regulate rpm and advance fuel injection. It is, in short the heart of the diesel engine.
Periodic checks and maintenance
The injection pump should be dismantled and checked in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines (every 100,000 km). Follow the manufacturer's instructions when checking the diesel circuit, replacing the fuel filter and when changing the timing belt.
Fitting the injection pump
Before fitting the injection pump you should check the fuel supply circuit and the diesel filter. Pay special attention to the pipes supplying the injection pump and check they do not leak, otherwise air locks may form. The timing system must be set up carefully to ensure the vehicle functions correctly. Follow the manufacturer's instructions in doing so.
