How to identify an injector

All injectors have a serial number cast on the injector to identify the manufacturer and type of injector, but we cannot fully identify the injector with this. We also need the application/vehicle in which it is installed: manufacturer, model, size, atmospheric or supercharged, type of engine, etc.

Providing the information on the vehicle is as easy as finding the technical specifications of the vehicle and giving them to your dealer.

Each injector manufacturer uses a different type of serial number:

• Bosch,la referencia empieza por KB o KC seguida de una combinación de letras y números.
• Lucas, la referencia empieza por LC o LR en el supuesto de los roscados seguida de una combinación de letras y números, cuando son electrónicos empieza por LDC seguida de una combinación de letras y números, cuando son de brida o de lápiz empiezan por RKB seguida de una combinación de letras y números.

• Nippondenso, la referencia se compone de cuatro números un guión y dos dígitos.
• Stanadyne, la referencia se compone de cinco números.

What is an injector and how does it work

It is one of the components within the feed circuit following the injection pump and its job is to spray the fuel inside the valve chamber.

Periodic checks and maintenance

The injectors should be dismantled and checked in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines (every 50,000 kms). Follow the manufacturer's instructions when checking the diesel circuit and replacing the fuel filter.

Fitting the injector

• Thoroughly clean the injector seat.
• Check and remove old joints in the injector seat.
• Tighten the injector to the corresponding tightening torque.
• Never bend the injector's tubes, otherwise metal particles could come off and stop the injector nozzle from squeezing.
• Thoroughly clean the end of the injector tube.
• Make diesel oil come out through the injector tubes before connecting them.
• Check the state of the injector seats on the cylinder head.
• Always change the waste joints or tubes as appropriate.
• Check the state of the diesel oil and the diesel oil filters.

Advice / Recommendations

Most of the problems when replacing diesel injectors are due to a dirty diesel oil circuit or to the intake of particles at the time of assembly. This is why we recommend a thorough cleaning of the fuel circuit before assembly.

Although the injector is a simple element, it is a precision part that operates in extremely harsh conditions. However, appropriate maintenance can provide an efficient and lasting service.
